Essay # 1

Hello my name is Natalia Montoya.  I study dentistry at Ulacit, that’s located at Barrio Tournon in San Jose, Costa Rica.  I live in Lagunilla  Heredia with my family; we are 5 members .  I previously studied to be a dental technician, where I realized my real love was dentistry.I study dentistry because I like to help people socially , improve their oral health and esthetics. 

 Helping people socially is another reason why
dentistry caught my attention. It is a way to help children with physical or mental problems. Last year I had the chance to participate in a dental campaign at “Escuela Neurosiquiatrica” in Tibás, where I was able to see many dental diseases in homeless children. I was proud to have been a part of all who helped those kids.

 To promote a good dental hygiene helps to prevent not only dental diseases but better one’s overall quality of life.  Dentistry also plays an important role in improving ones looks. In my opinion it is always important to keep your mouth clean to avoid having a bad appearance for others, after all a smile is often the first thing we notice about a person.

Another reason for studying dentistry   is when I was child a used braces to improve my facial appearance which partially motivated me to want to study this. I also have a brother who is a dentist, and he is now studying to be an orthodontist. It has always been amazing to me to see how people’s appearances change with dentistry.  As a future dentist, it is important to have proper hygiene to keep our teeth healthy. I want to help people to keep and improve their oral health. In the little time that I have been studying so far; it has been amazing to see how I can change people’s smiles for the good.
